Previously, CAS has commissioned three public artworks on behalf of Shaftesbury PLC. The most recent was the ‘SUSTAIN’ international sculpture commission, when BCEA artists were invited to reflect on the theme of sustainable development. Out of 49 artists in 14 countries, the winning design was ‘Flowing’ by Chua Boon Kee.
This contemporary abstract calligraphy artwork, 20ft of polished stainless steel, is inspired by the Chinese idiom,
“When you drink water, think of its source”(饮水思源,Yǐn shuǐ sī yuán).
The idiom reminds us of the values of virtue, gratitude and not forgetting one’s roots in East Asian philosophy.
