It's been an absolute pleasure to see @ling_ql wit

It's been an absolute pleasure to see @ling_ql with her fellow Singaporean friend, food writer @iamshuhanlee on last week's Low Carbon Chinatown workshop course where they explored making a low carbon (footprint) version of a traditional wonton dumpling soup! It's also the last of the engagement series that Ling is hosting this year for her project.

What's Next?
We are currently designing and building a pop up space at Newport Place in Chinatown from 17-20th September as part of @l_d_f_official, together with collaborators @usman_haque @atelier.one using low carbon materials and processes - stay tuned!

During the pop up, we will host a series of sit down meals featuring all the low carbon dishes, discussions and talks about the data science of climate change and Chinese food culture. More to come soon!

We are excited to hold our next Creative Lab workshop this Tuesday @shoreditchth ! There are still a few slots available to sign up!

23 August - Performance & Technology 6pm - 8.30pm at Shoreditch Town Hall.

You’re in for a unique treat as we will explore elements of story-telling, performance, and the use of wearable technology. It will include experimenting with audio recording so please bring a smartphone or laptop that can enable you to record mp3.

You can attend any or all of the Creative Lab workshops with a £10 All Access Tickets, available from the Shoreditch Town Hall website

Ling Tan
is a UK based Singaporean multidisciplinary designer and artist working within the field of social engagement, technology, citizen participation and politics. Originally trained as an architect, her work explores citizens’ interaction with the built environment and our collective agency and responsibility in tackling complex issues surrounding our cities. Her work ranges from wearable technology, interactive installations and performances to web platforms, mobile phone apps. Her work has been exhibited internationally including Centre Pompidou (France), Victoria and Albert Museum (UK), Barbican (UK), HeK (Switzerland) and Wits Art Museum (South Africa), and featured in magazines and websites across the globe such as Dezeen, Wired and Fast Company. https://lingql.com/

Daniel York Loh
is a writer, filmmaker, performer and musician. He is one of 21 writers of colour featured in the best-selling award-winning essay collection The Good Immigrant. His short films include Laid which won ‘Best Science-Fiction Film’ at Cannes Shorts. Most recently, his performed work includes Invisible Harmony 无形的和谐 (South Bank Centre for Papergang Theatre/Chinese Arts Now), Living Newspaper Edition 1 (Royal Court), Silent Disco In The Sky (Northern Stage), CAN’s award winning Every Dollar is a Soldier. As an actor has appeared at the Royal Court, RSC, National Theatre, Donmar Warehouse, in Singapore, China, Europe and the USA, as well as in the films Rogue Trader, The Beach and Scarborough.

Less than 1 week to register interest for our award-winning art and technology project, HOME X!

This live/digital hybrid production combines theatre, music, dance, gaming and virtual reality (VR) technology to create an immersive and interactive experience, exploring notions of belonging and roots, destruction and renewal.

What?

We are looking for community participants, particularly from, but not limited to, ESEA heritage backgrounds, to share stories about their lived experiences of HOME X’s themes of home, roots and identity. Participants can remain anonymous.

We are specifically looking for participants that currently live, or have recent experience of living, in CAMBRIDGE, OXFORD, YORK and HONG KONG, as the work will tour to these sites in 2023. We now have enough London participants.

How do we cook our favourite food dishes with a lower carbon footprint impact? Last week, as part of our Low Carbon Chinatown series, UK-based Burmese Chef & Food Writer MiMi Aye explored cooking low carbon Chicken Rice together with a group of participants.

With the help of acclaimed chefs and a data scientist, our participants were creating recipes that can reduce our impact on the environment. The Low Carbon Chinese dish will be showcased at a public pop-up event at Chinatown this September!
